Albix: i'm tempted to engage in some folly, but seriously i don't know the answer to the question. I am however curious as to why you ask.

I'd like to get some info on how new GD sources are chosen for upload.

The archive has only SBD's for certain dates where there are new HQ AUD sources out there. This "project" seems to have control of things. I never see a discussion about this kind of thing here. Maybe I'm mistaken?

Both these sites are posting new versions of shows that are not showing up here- in fact- when was the last show uploaded here? Seems to me some kind of cease and desist consent form was signed and part of the agreement was that this archive could no longer grow- it could get smaller by attrition or whatever reason- but it is not getting bigger- go to www.sugarmegs.org- a dozen GD shows were added in the last month

Direwolf- how hilarious- you saying "See ya" to me- how can you get away from me or me from you- we are dopplegangers don't you see?

An english phd who cannot tell the difference between a person posting a fact - (no new uploads here) and a person being "negative"- your interpretive skills are at their apex? Or is it their nadir? Don't know which yet- but since you are me and I am you, we will figure it out-

Right William Wilson?

Seriously Liam ... you don't perceive in any way that your original post was inherently negative? And that Dire was merely (once again) responding to this negativity of yours toward the Archive; an archive of treasured sounds which we all very much appreciate and derive pleasure from.

Hmmm ... not sure the Poe reference is an apt one. Or perhaps YOU are William Wilson, and the rest who post on this forum are embodied (so-to-speak) as the Other, and upon this Other you have stamped the on-line alterpersona of direwolf0701 in order to focus all your pentup frustrations and impotence.

You tear at my heartstrings like no one has ever done before- after hundreds and hundreds of internet postings over the years- you, Arbut, have nailed me right down- you got it- I do not treasure the archive- I do not cherish it- I do not think it is the best place in the universe to spend time-

All that you determined from a single post- your prowess is unequaled- your intellect unparalleled- your deductive logic impeccable- your total absence of equivocation is delicious.

I thank you from the bottom of my heart for making me see how passive aggressive I was being- and I do apologize from every lifetime I have ever lived for making the comments.

What in the hell was I thinking?

A least you guy(s) could argue about Republofascist pedophiles or drug zombie Rush or lyin' Ann.

Why not try the Friday Night Funnies:

Zephyr is ok at 168K, and I think I can tell the difference between 128 and 168k. I just use 256k VBR for everything except for a few Indian and classical and archive on DVD.

fact can often contain negative connotation and/or inference. i didn't say you lied, just came across as complaining (i.e negative) - my interpretation was just as simple as that, no more, no less.

edit - good response Arbuthnot!! - didn't see yours prior to posting my short response. :)

I just like hot dogs late on a Saturday afternoon- and what more can be said about that? dove-tailing one's way around the 12 corridors of 12 dimensions I do thoroughly enjoy everyone of you who is me and every part of me that is you- we are not seperate- we cannot be seperate- there is no place where your being begins and ends in a literal way- you are mostly empty space that evolution has allowed our brains to perceive as body, head, arms, legs, - but really- there is not a single point of disconnectedness- When you write to me you speak equally to your self. When I write to you I speak equally to myself

Remember that, and everything that you have ever wondered about or questioned will become crystal clear-

In the end, I love all of you, each and every one of you, as you all represent a part of me that I have absorbed and consumed- metaphysically cannibalized- thank you so much as I am no longer hungry

I am the walrus.......

Perhaps a link to a web site that is able to clearly ennunciate how we interpret inflection and tone on a forum would be most useful.

Sugarmegs shows aren't adequate sound-wise for me. I MUCH prefer GDlive or even the new zephyr site.

I have a copy of 12/6/89 from sugarmegs and from zephyr and the zephyr copy kicks bootay. However, these formats are inferior to what you get from GDlive. At least at zephyr, you can see the text, timing and lineage, sugarmegs is a crap-shoot. Many copies from cass. gens.

Bottom line, trading and GDlive are the best ways to get your hands on the goods. Everybody who dl's should also own some Dick's Pick's or buy some officially released GD material, in the name of good kharma. Don't forget to share. Offer without being asked, like a good Scout should...

What I still don't understand is why we're not privy to the contents of the alleged cease and desist agreement. There is a lot of conjecture as to what limitations were really placed on the LMA re: Grateful Dead content, and the conjecture could be avoided if the admin types would just be transparent about the *specific details* of what's actually going on. The exact limitations should be enumerated in the FAQ. Period.

I've raised this issue before and received replies with a dismissive tone that I'm sure that the admins and moderators wouldn't dare to direct at the GDP/Rhino lawyers. Likewise, all the SBDs mislabeled AUD have been "fixed" to be streaming-only, but the 12/5/69 AUD is still mislabeled a streaming-only SBD despite my noting this error several months ago. I know that it's important to CYA with both hands when the sharks are circling, but I don't take kindly to double-standards.

This archive is a labor of love, and the admins get my utmost gratitude for their endeavors. However, double-standards and withholding information are antithetical to those endeavors.

Liam

I am trying to figure out why other people think the words here are negative and not just facts- saying that two sites are growing and the other is not, and speculating that a cease and desist must have been signed is being seen as casting aspersions

Liam- did you mean to say that it really bothers you that the arhive did this or might have done this- Did you say between the lines that the other sites are better?

Did you criticize the moderators? Did you say that a shrinking archive is a sign that the web site is lacking in some way- I am trying to figure out where exactly it is that you went negative- Must be those words cease and desist-

Perhaps some parts of yourself who post here under other handles have had cease and desist orders served on them and it just leaves a bad taste in their mouths- what do you think? Coult that be it?

No Liam- I do no think I critcized anyone at all- I agree with you that it must be the use of the words cease and desist- that phrase has never been used at a marriage or a birthday party, or while looking at a beautiful sunset- now those are positive things-

So it must be that phrase that bugged the others- that or shrinkage- some folks may be worried about getting smaller-it is the water- I swear- it is very cold-

By comparing web sites and saying that they differ in policy and the other sites are growing- it should be quite clear even to an imbecile That you were being negative-

Liam- I just do not know what to advise you to do- there is no way a new idea can be grafted on a closed mind (someone here I am sure knows where that quote comes from)- Once the interpretation is done it is done- no way to squiggle out- you have to live with the label- ya went negative

Did you not see the thread where Dire stated that artist intent is not as important as what the art essentially conveys? Must be the same spirit with which he reads the posts here- so don't worry about it.

bein the reader response theory adherent that i am, i will stand by that one. naturally, i should add that it is what the artist actually conveys to the reader/looker/listener. sorry if i left that out that first time (cant even remember writing that post - damn im gettin senile).
